For example, a special service, an end of year production or a particularly special concert or a personal experience or event. Such recordings are irreplaceable, capturing unique moments in an individual or establishments history. A large number of these still remain stored on media which can so easily be damaged - perhaps on vinyl LP records which become dusty and scratched, or on audio cassettes which can wear out or become stretched over time. We so often take good care of our books and photographs, but, far less care is taken over recordings

Lantern Productions is able to offer a service whereby we can transfer your old recordings - whether on LP, audio cassette or reel-to-reel tape to a far safer meduim of CD, MD or DAT. The Girls Choir and Layclerks of Rochester Cathedral are directed by Sean Farrell with Roger Sayer at the organ. This was ''Lantern Productions'' first commercially released CD. Track Listing Ref Ref LPCD1 Released 1999 SHADES OF BLUE Shades of Blue was formed in 1988 and was based in Ely. Each of its six members had connections with the Choir of Ely Cathedral. The group had a varied repertoire of a cappella items from a wide range of musical genre. The group undertook entertainment and concert work, performed on radio and television and tour abroad frequently. Originally released on the Mirabilis label. Track Listing Ref MRCD910 Released 1995 CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION East Anglia''s Childrens Hospices commissioned and funded ''A Fine Arts Christmas Celebration'' from Ely Cathedral. All parties acknowledge the kind sponsorship of Avro Industries Ltd and Kettle Foods. This is the first choral recording from Ely to feature the newly restored Harrison & Harrison organ. Ely Cathedral Choir with the Fine Arts Brass Ensemble is conducted by Paul Trepte with Scott Farrell at the organ. Track Listing Ref LPCD6 Released 1999 TYE: THREE MASSES Christopher Tye (1505?-1572) was one of the most important composers of the generation of Tallis and Sheppard, yet little of his music has survived. Here, for the first time on CD, all three of his masses are presented together. Tye was for many years Magister Choristarum at Ely, so it is especially appropriate that the works are performed by the famous Choir of Ely Cathedral, and recorded in the spacious acoustic of Ely''s great Lady Chapel - the very place where Tye himself would have directed them. The large-scale 6-part Euge bone Mass is Tye''s most splendid creation, closely rivalled by his mass based on the English secular song The Western Wind. The major discovery is the world premiere recording of the Peterhouse Mass (so-called because its source is the Peterhouse part-books). Its resurrection adds another masterpiece to the glories of English polyphony.Because the total timing of all three masses is too long for a single CD, the Peterhouse Mass appears on the second disc. "..no Tudor collection should be without it" (Fanfare) Penguin Guide *** "..confident, full-bodied and refreshingly unmannered." (Choir & Organ). The heavenly experience recorded in both the Cathedral and the Lady Chapel is delivered in a carefully chosen programme of familiar pieces ideally captured by William Harris in the two anthems ''Faire is the heaven'' and ''Bring us O Lord God''. This recording features a tuneful selection of nautical hymns and songs with organ or instrumental accompaniment. In addition to Clovelly''s colaboration, R G Jones'' Recording studio in London was used for some mixing of the instrumental tracks. Ely Cathedral Choir is directed by Paul Trepte with Scott Farrell at the organ. Instrumentals played by Rodney and Rebecca Hall. Sean Farrell studied music at the University of York and the Royal Academy of Music, London. He was for ten years heavily involved in Cathedral Music, holding the posts of Assistant Organist at Wakefield, Ely and Rochester Cathedrals. During this time he has been a champion of the Cathedral Girls Choir movement, founding the Wakefield Girls Choir in 1992, and bringing the Girls Choir of Rochester Cathedral to greater national, and subsequently international prominence through a series of recordings, broadcasts and concert tours, culminating in a royal command performance for the Queen of Denmark in July this year.

Sean has studied the organ with Christopher Bowers-Broadbent, Nicholas Danby and Naji Hakim and remains an active organ recitalist. He has played in many of the great cathedrals and churches in England as well as making numerous appearances across Europe and the USA. He is also in demand as an accompanist and choral conductor.

Sean joined the staff of Trinity College of Music , London in September 2001 and now combines the post of Director of Music at the Old Royal Naval College Chapel with that of Director of Performance Studies at Trinity.

As Lantern Productions Managing Director, Sean is responsible for administration, marketing, ''project'' planning as well as the initiation and making of all recordings. He has sung in many of the great cathedrals and churches of England, Europe, Canada and the USA. He is a co-founder of the close harmony group ''shades of blue''. He has made numerous appearances on Radio and Television.

Richard is currently (senior) Layclerk with Ely Cathedral Choir . He also holds the full-time position of Technical Manager with Ely Cathedral. In his spare time away from Cathedral life, as well as being heavily involved with Lantern Productions, he finds time to pursue his other hobby, broadcasting; presenting a Sunday night radio programme for the Hosptial Radio station - Radio Addenbrookes in Cambridge. He has over the years had close links with Radio Hallam, BBC Radio Sheffield, CNFM (now Q103) and BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. When Lantern Productions was founded the recordings were recorded, engineered and edited by Richard to a very high standard and this is still attained today. He supervises every recording through the various stages of the production process, right through to the final master used for commercial production.

Audio Catalogue

Track Listings also include audio samples

  TYE: THREE MASSES

Christopher Tye (1505?-1572) was one of the most important composers of the generation of Tallis and Sheppard, yet little of his music has survived. Here, for the first time on CD, all three of his masses are presented together. Tye was for many years Magister Choristarum at Ely, so it is especially appropriate that the works are performed by the famous Choir of Ely Cathedral, and recorded in the spacious acoustic of Ely´s great Lady Chapel - the very place where Tye himself would have directed them. The large-scale 6-part Euge bone Mass is Tye´s most splendid creation, closely rivalled by his mass based on the English secular song The Western Wind.
